About Me —

Hello, my name is Frederic Lee.

Thank you for visiting my website! I am a fiction author and journalist currently employed by The Financial Times — covering risk, audits, and strategy at large public companies. Buy my novel, Resort Aquatica, here

Before that, I was employed as a tax policy reporter in Washington, D.C., and I’ve interviewed many notable lawmakers such as Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Ted Cruz, R-Tx. I’m a University of Virginia graduate with a Media Studies degree, and I’ve been trained by journalists who hold the highest of accolades. I can edit and write about any subject — no matter how technical — and have honed my journalism skills over seven years. My passions include creating content that improves lives.

Prior to D.C., my role as a reporter and photographer with The Smithfield Times newspaper developed my love and knack for both hard-hitting news and feature reporting skills through boots-on-the-ground experience. As the lead reporter for the town of Smithfield, the Isle of Wight County School Board, Surry County, and the town of Windsor, I ask tough questions and do so diligently, reporting the truth with speed and accuracy. I enjoy my work because I get to meet people all of the time and learn about their goals, interests, and motivations. I’m able to stay objective but, at the same time, provide the facts behind any topic with clarity.

I’m reliable, outgoing, and always excited to speak with or interview someone new. My range of work includes coverage of murder trials, government scandals, and a D-Day veteran nearing his 100th birthday among a portfolio of hundreds of diverse articles. I’m primarily a writer now yet enthusiastic to expand into other creative realms if they enhance the story.

At the University of Virginia — a college that is regularly voted within the top two public universities in the U.S. — I majored in Media Studies and minored in English. My major mainly focused on news writing, editing, and journalism at large. Through both my formal and extracurricular educations, I gained skills in detailed A.P.-style writing and quality news judgment. During the summer of 2015, I held an internship at the Human Rights Campaign, where I gained lasting connections with notable D.C. figures, published articles, and produced market data reports.
